Mycobim - Barbados

Max was invited by renowned mycologist and educator Darren Le Baron to take part in a pioneering fungal survey of Barbados, one of the first comprehensive studies of the island's fungi since the 1960s. Working alongside a team of researchers, Max helped document and map fungal diversity across the island, identifying native edible species and recording fungi with medicinal potential. The expedition also uncovered bioluminescent fungi and identified species capable of breaking down invasive non-native trees, highlighting the vital ecological role fungi play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. This important work has contributed to a greater understanding of Barbados' largely unexplored fungal biodiversity.
